Description
Over the years, I've found that a great way to find wild Mountain Goats in the wild is to head up onto Mount Evans, west of Denver, Colorado. With a road that goes up to the top of the mountain (just over 14,000 feet), it's the highest paved road in North America and an easy way to get to the top of a high mountain peak - which happens to be an area where the goats like.
It's not a guarantee by any means, but the odds are pretty good that you'll see them if you go to the top and show some patience. In general, they don't like the crowds that appear in the more convenient times of day so consider the morning or evening when making plans. In this case, an afternoon showed light crowds and a family that appeared very comfortable hanging around near the parking lot.
And for me, seeing the family was something very special - this time, with a Nanny and two Kids. I love the behavior and the cute factor of the kids and when I see them next to the adults, the contrast in both behavior and appearance really shows. And while all that was great, I'll admit I was hoping and saying to myself that I wished they would pose for me. Come on, get lined up and look my way, I said. And then, just like a Dr Dolittle moment, it happened. I smiled wide as I captured the magical moment.
