Description

This original colour pencil painting of my NJ friend, Shari’s “She Shed” is peering thru an overlay of two gardenscape photographs: one of her shed with purple salvia and the other, a partial foreground overlay of a visitor-butterfly (Aphrodite fritillary) atop a coneflower. This will be a surprise gift to her…just because! Shari sends me regular photographs from her emerging garden and Forest floor finds for reference and/or creative inspiration; this painting takes the best of both photographs and I am SO delighted with its result.
My longtime friend from NJ days is a ballerina-choreographer, artist and creative repurposer of discarded “finds” some of which which she re-beautifies in the alchemical space of her she-shed. When she decided to claim the once little-used shed as her own, freshly painted walls and ceilings were softened with yards of gauzy fabric and twinkle lights. There is a meditational niche as well as utilitarian space where threads become crocheted snowflakes, hanging bunches of dried herbs and lavender become Christmas gifts, roadside furniture discards become newly hand-brocade-upholstered, vintage collectibles. Everyday, she makes her woodland pilgrimage with her westies, most often sending me forest finds from places new and once familiar to my Nature retreats. She is truly a special, multi-media artist and one of my soul-sisters; it is a personal delight to honor her enchanted spaces💜!
NOTE: Within the controversial distinction of CP “drawing” or “painting” lies artist definition. My definition: when the surface is ENTIRELY burnished, I classify as a Painting; when any exposed Paper Is part of the composition or background, I classify as a drawing. I render both
